ART IS FILLED WITH MISTAKES AND MISTAKES ARE FILLED WITH ART

- NOLDON STARKS

Welcome to my creative space where you can know a little bit about me and how my poetry is a reflection of my life. I have Joubert Syndrome (www.jsrdf.org) a genetic disorder that affects my coordination, balance and speech. I got diagnosed with Joubert at the age of thirteen. I was misdiagnosed when I was born. The  doctors thought I had Ocular Motor Apraxia which deals with the fine motor skills but after running additional tests they found that I had more characteristics of Joubert Syndrome than Ocular Motor Apraxia so I've been living with Joubert Syndrome all of my life.

The reason that I got into poetry is because I took a creative writing course in college ( Mercyhurst University) senior year. One section we covered was poetry and

the teacher taught us by letting us read other poets, writing our own poems and doing assignments that expanded our creative juices. I got hooked so much and after I graduated, I decided to write some poetry and decided to test my skills at open mic nights, specifically at the Root Café located in Lakewood, Ohio and the Phoenix Coffee located in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The crowds clapped so that is always a good sign (lol). In my opinion, I'm good but with that being said it's always room for growth.

The inspirations that come from my poetry are from God, my disability, music and young ladies.  The poets that I have read so far are Nikki Giovanni (My House), Amanda J. Bradley (Queen Kong), Kahlil Gibran (The Prophet) â€‹and Nate Marshall  (Wild Hundreds) and I'm in the process of reading Jhene Aiko (2 Fish).
